Close to the River Frome this church was said to be the burial place of Edward the Martyr after his muder by his step-mother Elfrida at nearby Corfe Castle. His body was later moved to Shaftesbury.

An unusual in this church is the hexagonal lead font and dates from around 1100. It features figures of the twelve Apostles around the bowl and it is claimed that is the only six-sided font in existence.
